My Dear Kush,
Last time, you showed your interest to know more about Mausi's house and all the details. Here, in USA, I realize that what so ever we are informed about USA , it is created by the media and the things are quite different at ground level ; perhaps they are dealing the matter purely on business basis . Regarding the house pattern ,first ,we are residing in independent house which can be afforded only by middle or upper middle class of states. If you turn the cost in Indian rupee, it will be around 2-3 crore rupee but the facilities provided are far from any luxury apartments/Vilas your builders are providing at Bangalore or any other place in India . I don't think you can purchase such house and facilities in India ,at this cost. I justify my statement with following facts; I am attaching some pictures to co-relate the matter :
1.Fenceless houses : you might have read the famous poem of Ravindra Nath Tagore where he advocates to link with whole universe ,dismantle all the fences and open the windows of our houses so that new air/thoughts may come to the residents from all the directions. We have followed none, but here, in Sharon, and for that matter all the places in the state, there is no fence which can demarcate your house from the road or your neighbor and there appears no land disputes among the neighbors.
2.Garden : Every house is surrounded with a spacious garden ,with good quality grass. And to remove the problem of watering the garden, there are sprinkles which work automatically on rotation and water the plants and grass of the garden. There are no independent houses in Bangalore which may have such specious gardens; moreover, there is water problem if one is willing to maintain the garden.
3. The car garage has a sensory electric bulb which lights up when you approach near to the garage whose gate opens with a remote control. By the way, I am not observing any tube-light either in the house or even in the market or any other place.
4. When you come to the main entrance of the house , you will not find the latches where we put our Indian lock ; there is only a key hole to open the lock and the door.
5.Wooden Houses : You will surprise to note that these independent houses are made of wood . Its amazing how they are able to gather so much wood to construct the houses in whole of the country where we have to change even our wooden rail sleepers with concrete ones as we failed to afford so much wood for our railway track and here they are constructing houses every year from the wood and that too of good quality which can sustain the constructions for years to gather.
I have told you Mahabharat story where Pandavas were asked for 'vanvas' and to get rid of them , Duryodhan arranged their stay in "Lashyagrah"- a house made of 'lakh' which is venerable to fire. To me, these wooden houses also appeared just like "lashyagrah" but there are no Duryodhan who can fire these houses , neither electric short circuits which can frequently burn the house. I think the whole purpose of using wood for the house is to withstand the miseries of the climate which is so adverse- its hot in these days (july to sep) with minus temperatures in the winters. And as you know wood is a bad heat conductor hence it helps in warming up the house in the winter to sustain minus temperatures by the residents.
You can not judge the basic material of the house unless you are informed so, as outside is decorated with vinyl material while inside is plastered with different colors . It is as smooth as our 'Putti" or may be coarse merely to give decoration . There is false roof on the top while the floor is finished either with carpet or with wooden work.
I will inform you next time about the electric fittings and other gadgets. I will highly appreciate if you search out the reasons for such wide temperature differences in this area which is near to the sea and not like Himalayan terrene . Does it mean that position of Himalaya is not responsible for low temperatures but other metrological factors are playing their game ? Search them out on Google and write me as comments.
Rest all is well. With great love and affection
